Nova Scotia Man Charged
After Stolen Ambulance Stopped by RCMP
Andrew Cory Hipson, 36, of Deerfield, is now facing several charges including theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation, flight from police, driving while suspended or revoked, and failing to comply with release conditions.
He has been remanded in custody pending a future court date.
At approximately 4:15 pm on September 10th, Antigonish County District RCMP responded to Bay Street following a report that an unoccupied ambulance had been taken. No injuries were reported.
Officers located the ambulance on Beech Hill Road and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle continued onto St. Andrews Street. RCMP chose not to pursue it due to concerns for public safety, instead tracking its movements.
A second traffic stop was attempted on Highway 104 near James River, but the ambulance again failed to stop. Pictou County District RCMP later deployed a spike belt at Sullivans River, successfully deflating the vehicle’s tires.
Despite the damage, the ambulance continued along Highway 104 before stopping on the shoulder near New Glasgow at approximately 5 pm. The driver was arrested without further incident.
